Mixed Media Arts for Passport to Learning
at the Wallace Elementary School in Hoboken, NJ

In 2018, Susan Newman joined the after school program “Passport to Learning” at the Wallace Elementary School in Hoboken, NJ. The art class of 15-20 students met Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15 and we took on a whole variety of creative projects. We learned about sea life, created puppets, backgrounds, wrote mini scripts and then filmed the shows. We learned about patterns and designed art frames and rockets. We learned how to recycle materials such as creating caterpillars from paper towel roll cores.

Passport to Learning Staff,

Well, another wonderful year of Passport to Learning is in the books. I’d like to thank each of you for creating an environment of enthusiasm and learning for our students. I can’t begin to count the numerous emails and phone calls that I have received from parents who are grateful that our school district provides opportunitIes for our students to experience, and be exposed to, courses that go beyond the daily curriculum.

As a parent and administrator, I have the pleasure to work with and get to know people in various fields, scientists, doctors, entrepreneurs, business owners; but none of these positions contributes to our community’s and nation’s development more than an impact of a teacher. Each of you holds the key to unlocking the next generation of movers and shakers, of leaders, and great thinkers. This responsibility carries over to our enrichment program, and I would like to thank each of you for nurturing this responsibility and being dedicated to its growth.

Have a wonderful and adventurous summer!
